Snowmaking Project

The Friends of Lapham Peak, in cooperation with the DNR, have completed the installation of snow making equipment on approximately one mile of the ski trails at the Lapham Peak Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest.  This includes a pond for a water supply, electrical power, underground piping, a high pressure pump to deliver the water, connections, hoses, high efficiency snow guns, and a snow cat to spread the snow.  Funds for this project are being donated by individuals and businesses.

Major work so far has been:
o   Pond construction – Fall 2006, with final restoration in spring of 2007
o   Install Phase 2A piping in fall of 2008
o   Purchase Phase 2B pipe in 2009
o   Install Phase 2B piping in fall of 2010
o   Install new high capacity pump in fall of 2014
o   Install Phase 3A piping in May 2016 under Magic Carpet Ride and Tail End trail sections

Phases 3B and 3C will put 2200 feet of pipe in the ground. This will be accomplished as soon as funds are available.

  • Phase 3B:  To Fright Hike Cutoff-$19,000
  • Phase 3C:  Cutoff connection-$61,000
  • Phase 4:  Two Tier Hill/Hoot Owl-$97,000

The project is fully funded by donations from our contributors, so your help is needed if we are to expand our manmade snow trail.

Special recognition is given to donors who contribute who meet these levels:

Avalanche                           $10,000 & up

Glacier                                  $5,000 to $9,999
